Is This the New Normal?
Pres. Trump takes action in D.C. to fix it.
Yes, we’ve all seen or heard by now the news that Pres. Trump has acted on federalizing Washington, D.C. because of the former DOGE employee “Big Balls” being brutally attacked on the streets of D.C. recently while protecting a female, from a gang of street thugs.
The report from The Epoch Times article tells the reader, “According to preliminary statistics from the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, overall crime in the district decreased by 7 percent year-over-year in the first eight months of 2025. Violent crime dropped by 26 percent and property crime by 4 percent, the data show.”
Apparently Mayor Muriel Bowser and the D.C Metropolitan P.D. seem to believe that crime and homeless people occupying the streets of the city is acceptable, so even if whatever remains with the “look good” reduction in stats, that’s just fine with them. So, it must be the new normal.
Our family has been to Washington, D.C., but this was 22 years ago and during Pres. Bush’s time in office for a national culinary cook-off our older daughter took part in as the pastry chef of the team. The city was in what appeared to us as a good, clean, and essentially crime free environment.
Because we found the city enjoyable and have been planning to return, in 2020 we booked flights and hotel accommodations for a trip in February, only to have to have the trip cancelled and the flight put on a travel voucher due to COVID-19 shutdowns forcing us to.
Since then, the overall indications of the rise in crime and homelessness affecting the city have delayed another trip. We suspect that this has also been true for many others. I’m glad that my Honor Flight with the Puget Sound group has not come about yet, partly because it is so heavily booked ahead. If we were to go back, it would only be with this group because, as I understand it from fellow Legionnaires who’ve been recently, it has a contingent of security detail which accompanies it when at specific sights like the Vietnam War Memorial, or near the Congressional building.
However, this federalization of D.C. by Pres. Trump only is in effect for 48 hours and Mayor Muriel Bowser seems to have no concern that crime and homelessness exist in such a highly focused destination for our nation. Like most liberal controlled cities across the nation, this, in my opinion, is interested in perpetuating the Homeless Industrial Complex which generates billions of tax payer dollars, yet seems to only pay the salaries of the CEOs of the hundreds of non-profit organizations that give the appearance that they’re changing things for the better. It’s only continued to get worse!
As a commenter related to this article cited above, and using the identifier of “Nobody” state:
In both our nation’s Capital and Washington State, what the Democrats have done to sully and slander Washington’s name and reputation is abjectly disgraceful. George Washington would be horrified if he could witness what they did to the places named after him, which has been completely counter to the principles for which Washington and the other founders risked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
I thank Nobody for making a point I would wholeheartedly agree with; it’s a disgrace! If you’re as disgusted about this issue as I am, I’d urge my readers to write their congressional senators and representatives and express your sentiments about it; if you believe it will not fall on deaf ears. Of course, since they only will pay attention when the numbers of those doing such a thing are sufficient to concern them about being reelected in the mid-term elections.
