Another Typical Indicator in the Local Dead Fish-wrapper.
"Badges? We don't need to show you any stinking badges!" (Referring to today's ICE agents in various cities.)
The sub-title above is from the Treasure of the Sierra Madre movie; a favorite line from an old classic.
Question: What is the primary purpose of our federal, state, and city governments? If you’re answer is to protect the law-abiding citizen who has no intention of doing otherwise, then you’d be correct.
I sat down this morning as I usually do at my favorite coffee shop for a mid-morning coffee and pastry. Bob, another regular patron, who was sitting in another chair near me got through with his local newspaper, and handed it to me because he knows I like to scan the headlines, and left the shop.
If there’s one thing I know I can rely on from the Seattle dead fish-wrapper, it’s their columnist’s ability to take a current piece of news, and cleverly warp the story to support the dominant ideology which drives the governing policies of not only its city, but the state as well. Today’s article headline read, “Stats, Trump tell different stories about crime in Northwest cities.” From the headline, my interpretation of it is they’re claiming that the statistics speak differently to the level of crime and chaos going on.
I read the first sentence, “During his two presidencies, Donald Trump has often name-checked Portland and Seattle, describing the cities as dangerous and led by left-wing radicals, and more recently threatening to send the National Guard to tame the previous chaos.” Well, at least we get an immediate indication of their level of respect for the man that the overwhelming number of voters in the nation elected as president, but they can’t bring themselves to include the appropriate title in front of his name. Typical!
Any reader who knows the history and makeup of the Seattle City Council and past riots of 1999’s WTO and COVID’s Chaz/Chop during the “Summer of Love,” as well as the ongoing nightly assault against the ICE facility in downtown Portland, it isn’t difficult to admit that that yeah, the cities ARE run by left-wing radicals. The next sentence accuses President Trump of using inciteful rhetoric in his Truth Social post by saying Portland is a “War-ravaged” city because the ICE facility is under siege from attacks by Antifa. And repeatedly claiming that it’s “the end of democracy” or calling anyone who disagrees with their views a Nazi, Gestapo, or fascist, isn’t rhetorically extreme? Yet, in the Biden administration, major companies like Google were forced to censor American citizens online. If that’s not fascist I don’t know what is.
Skipping over the middle of the article about Oregon getting National Guard sent from California to deal with the issues in Portland, we read about Seattle’s circumstances by having to turn to page 15th at the back of the very back of the front section of the paper where it continues, “‘The fact of the matter is here, crime is down, safety is up,’ [Mayor] Harrell said.”’ Well, while that sounds good on the surface, if one continues down the column a bit further, these authors have carefully placed near the end of it the following stats.
‘“According to a [Dead Fish-wrapper] analysis of FBI data, crime overall has fallen in both cities since 2022, with the rate of violent crime remaining stable in the past couple of years.”’ Oh, so it’s really not going down as fast as other cities? I suspect that many readers who’ve gotten this far down the column are saying to themselves, ‘“Okay, so things aren’t as bad as the President claims, so I don’t need to read any further.”’ That’s precisely why the writers place the rest of the information near the end.
Here’s what the rest of the stats tell us… “’Among the most populous cities, while Portland and Seattle have some of the highest property crime rates in the nation, they’re in the middle of the pack when it comes to violent crime.”’ says Ernesto Lopez, a senior research specialist for the non-partisan Washington, D.C. based Council on Criminal Justice.” Oh, I see, so how does that make the Mayor’s statement believable when he said, ‘“The fact of the matter is here, crime is down, safety is up,”’? because the two just don’t work together!
‘“Seattle’s homicide rate is typically far lower than in many other large U.S. cities, and after a spike in homicides across King County in 2023, fewer people have been killed this year so far in the city and county.”’ Okay, so isn’t it still true that “one life lost is too many” which was a trending statement by the left-wing several years ago about anyone being killed by some other problem?
Here’s where the column’s admissions jump off the page for the reader who manages to get this far through the column; possibly causing a mental conundrum to anyone who’s thinking with their brain upon encountering it. ‘“Not all crimes are reported to police. The general rule, Lopez says, is that the more serious the crime, the more likely it is police will know about it.”’ Yet, many times we’ve recently heard that many municipalities around the country choose to not report many kinds of crimes; or have reclassified down murders which are felonies to misdemeanors.
Now, we get to the bomb being dropped regarding stats on crime. ‘“The National Crime Victimization Survey, which looks at how many people are victims of crime regardless of whether they reported to police, found Washington state had the highest rate of people who say they were victimized by property crimes of the 22 largest states between 2017 and 2022. Five of the 22 states, including Washington, had a higher violent crime rate than the national rate.”’ Uh oh!
However, in an effort to soften the fact that stats reveal a different story, the article ends with the following sentence to make it more palatable to those few readers who might have made it to the end. ‘“When you look at a place like Seattle, certainly you want crime rates to be lower, but they are trending in the right direction, and I think that’s promising,”’ Lopez said. Well, isn’t that special, as the church lady said?
A person using a reasonable level of common sense will ask themselves, “So, am I supposed to be happy about someone’s hope that the last year’s stats indicate the trend will continue in that same direction?” Meanwhile, Seattle’s city police department is desperately trying to attract qualified officers to join the force as innocent residents are targeted by unsavory individuals roaming its streets. Keep in mind that the two charts from the statistics cited for bother Portland and Seattle show that the current years information is ONLY to July of this year; leaving four more months not added to the year’s total.
Do the conflicting statistics cited in this article give any rational person reason to believe there’s a reason to be hopeful when they can’t admit that the city’s got a problem with keeping law and order and insist that it was a good idea to defund their police department during the COVID years in reaction to a drug addict having died during his arrest? The legacy media certainly didn’t help with the perception of the hero he’s become to many, as though a thug who held a gun to the belly of a pregnant woman is someone to admire.
Then too, we must not ignore the fact that President Trump’s clear message, in his first 8 months of his second term, that illegals who’ve been among us in our various cities until recently has resulted in millions leaving the United States and return to their homeland, as another reason why crime stats are down. I wouldn’t expect the reporters to point out this reality in their article. That would be giving him too much credit!
I would imagine there are a lot of readers out there who wonder, as I do, how much more we will tolerate from those who blatantly carry out insurrectionist acts, those like Antifa, or any other anarchist organizations that attempt to ignite a revolution against our federal republic? Governors like Pritzker or Newsom are making it obvious that they’re sending a green light to such organizations.
Here’s a final suggested brief video from an Illinois Sheriff about this issue to consider.
The real question is, is it just because they are political foes with the administration? Or is there a deeper, more Soros-like organization behind their kicking and screaming the whole way to reducing crime in their cities? Watch the money trail, as they say.
